The short version: what you say stays on your Mac. We only keep what we need to sell you a license and help you when you ask.
Your voice and your words
Utter turns speech into text on your Mac. Your audio and the text it produces are processed on your device and are never sent to us or to anyone else. We cannot see, hear or store what you dictate.
Custom vocabulary, settings and modes are stored on your Mac only.
When you buy a license
To sell and deliver your license we keep:
- your name and email address,
- what you bought, the price and the date,
- your license key and its status.
Payments are handled by Stripe. Your card details go straight to Stripe and never reach us. Stripe processes your payment under its own privacy policy.
When you activate Utter
When you activate a license, Utter sends us your license key, an anonymous identifier for your Mac, the name of your Mac, and the versions of Utter and macOS you run. We use this only to count how many Macs a license is active on, so you can manage your seats, and to check now and then that the license is still valid.
This website
We measure visits to this website with privacy friendly analytics that use no cookies and do not identify you. We see totals such as how many people visited a page and which country or browser they came from, never who you are.
When you join our launch list or send us a message, we keep your email address and what you wrote so we can reply.
Emails we send
We only send emails you would expect: your license key, keys you ask us to resend, replies to your messages, and a note when Utter is released if you asked for one. We never send marketing without your permission.
Our emails may contain a small invisible image and tracked links, which tell us whether an email was delivered and opened. They are used to make sure your license actually reached you.
How long we keep it
We keep purchase and license records for as long as your license exists and as long as tax and accounting rules require. Support messages are kept until your question is resolved and for a reasonable time after.
Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of the data we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Deleting your data also deactivates your license. To make a request, write to us through the support page.
